Denise's approach is to use the theoretical framework which suit the needs and preferences of the individual.  She also offers group work.

Her specialities are meditation and body centered psychotherapies.  These are  "parts work" and uses Internal Family Systems, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing /EMDR and Life Force Yoga, Hypnotherapy, Shamanism, and sound healing.

Internal Family Systems, a psychotherapy approach

Denise often uses a psychotherapy approach called internal Family Systems (IFS) or "parts work"[selfleadership.org] that is a body-centered and mindfulness based. It focuses on feeling/sensation as a means to access aspects of past memory.

IFS helps people develop increased awareness of the body, of sensation, feelings and of thoughts. Through this process, people learn about the different aspects of the self and what these aspects need to heal or transform.

IFS gives clients the control over the pace and the depth of the emotional unfolding. This approach also gives the client the skills to continue the deep work of healing the self throughout daily life.

IFS helps to cultivate positive regard, compassion, and kindness towards the self.

EMDR (Eye movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

is based upon a theoretic approach, called “Adaptive Information Processing.” This is the process whereby an individual meets each new moment with thought, feeling, sensation, and image, and integrates it adaptively into one’s sense of self. However, when a trauma occurs, fear or dissociation blocks the process of integration and the memory remains frozen within one’s internal network. As time passes, events occur which trigger the traumatic memory and the individual re-experiences aspects of the past memory within the present. Through EMDR, the traumatic memory is processed at an accelerated rate and is integrated into one’s sense of self where the psychological disturbance associated with the trauma is either eliminated or lessened. Trauma not only refers to major traumatic events but also to relatively minor events, for example, events from childhood that result in personality problems which become the basis of current dysfunctional reactions.

EMDR also refers to bilateral stimulation used to facilitate the processing. Most commonly this involves moving the eyes back and forth following the therapist’s fingers as they move across the field of vision. However, therapists often use auditory tones, tapping, or other types of tactile stimulation.

 

Shamanism

Shamanic Journeying: A Beginner’s Guide

The shaman interacts directly with spirits through the “journey.” One way that the shaman “journeys” is that he/she drums and enters non-ordinary reality and meets his guides.

As a facilitator of the shamanic “journey,” Denise guides the process whereby individuals learn how to journey for themselves. With the use of the drum, she supports others as they enter non-ordinary reality and access information and energies which may manifest in the form of human or animal guides. These experiences move us towards our wholeness and ultimately teaches that everything that exists is alive and has spirit.

Meditation and Shamanism

Practicing the skills of meditation—sustained inner focus, and letting go—will greatly enhance one’s receptivity to the journey.

Meditation is about the practice of living with awareness of sensation, feelings, and thoughts. It is also the practice of letting go, softening the body, not creating resistance to what is occurring in the present. These are practices that are pivotal to the “journey.”

Life Force Yoga

Denise is certified as a LifeForce Yoga (R) Practitioner Level 1 . LifeForce Yoga is using the practices of movement, sound and breath in service of treating depression and anxiety.
